Eglise Saint-Denis

This former collegiate Church was founded in 987 by Bishop Notger. The church has a massive western tower in coal sandstone, which no doubt was part of the defensive system of the town. The succession of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles show the different phases in the construction and renovation of the church.

Note the organ case (16th century), and the sculpted wooden altarpiece with painted panels attributed to Lambert Lombard, Jean Del Cour's eagle lectern. The cloister was erected in the 19th century.
